Roundhouse

Built for South Harting primary school and designed with lots of input from the children.

One of the joys and challenges of this project was interpreting the children’s imaginative ideas and finding a way to build them! The desire for an ‘underground’ area, produced the low cartwheel ceiling, which in turn becomes the main floor supported on a large oak trunk. The main frame is larch, supporting a reciprocal roof and a two story, lime plastered straw bale wall sitting on stone gabions fills in the structure. Various slides, forts and a wobbly bridge make this a building of architectural fun.
