The Sustainability Centre

My brief was to create a large outdoor venue that could be used for multi purpose events at the Sustainability centre.

The building needed to feel a sense of sacredness as one of the buildings uses was for wakes for the South downs natural burial site. The centre was previously a military naval base and I felt the design slightly resembled an upturned boat though many people refer to it as an Almadillo. Built from Lawson Cypress which was growing 200 metres away from the building site, this was a build that evolved steam bending the roof rafters and wall plates to get matching curves and utilised a cordwood and clay wall. The project involved a training element as it was being built at an educational establishment.
