Summer

Summer is the creative time at Prickly Nut wood – Ben is working on his craftwork and in particular with Roundwood timber framing, both courses and building projects are now in full swing.

The warm evenings lead to long nights around the charcoal kiln and the sounds of nightjars and nightingales add fascinating sounds throughout the woodland. Butterfly numbers increase with white admirals and silver washed fritillaries; and lizards appear in the freshly cut coppice and in the wood piles.

The coppice re-growth now appears like young multi-stemmed bushes, pushing on towards the light.
Wild strawberries, bilberries and Japanese wineberries are on the menu and winter seems a long time ago!
