Charcoal Production Course: throughout summer

This course provides instruction into preparation, loading and burning in a ring kiln to create charcoal.

Species of wood, length of seasoning, lay out of kiln and control of air vents will all be covered and the kiln will be lit early evening and burnt through the night.

It is essential to camp on the night of the burn to ensure overnight chimney changes and any necessary night time checks.
The course will finish with and bagging of the finished product and marketing advice.

Important notes:

  • Please read Terms and Conditions which includes cancellation policy.
  • This course is unsuitable for children.
  • No dogs are allowed on Prickly Nut Wood courses.
  • Please ENSURE your footwear has been washed before arriving at Prickly Nut Wood, this is for bio-security measures to contain the spread of tree diseases.

Please bring:

  • Sensible footwear with safety toe caps / steel toe cap boots.
  • Clothes for a visit to a working woodland.
  • Bring a swimming costume if you fancy a dip!
  • A packed lunch and/or food for shared meals.
